First up a quick cowl (approx. 18cms wide)to knit in beautifully soft alpaca yarn. This cowl is knitted "long" ways and then joined, in Rowan Chunky Alpaca.
Rows 1 and 2: Knit 1, Purl 1 to end of row
Rows 3 and 4: Purl 1, Knit 1 to end of row.
Knit until you run out of yarn (leaving enough to cast off and sew seam).
Twist and sew up.
The second cowl is knitted in the round in Debbie Bliss Paloma yarn.
You will need 4 balls of Paloma
for the size in the photo (this is 2 metres long x approx. 15cms wide) or 3 balls to make one 1.5 metres long. Needles: 12mm circular - either 80cms or 100cms.
Cast on 200 stitches for the long version or 150 stitches for the shorter version. Twist once and join to work in the round. Mark the start of the round with a stitch marker of a piece of contrasting yarn.
Rounds 1 and 2: Knit 1, Purl 1 to end of round
Rounds 3 and 4: Purl 1, Knit 1 to end of round.
Repeat these rows approximately 5 times (12 rows in total) leaving enough yarn to cast off - I used about 8 metres to cast off the 200 stitches on the longer version. Cast off loosely. Sew in ends and enjoy!!
